North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (formerly known as 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust until 1st April 2017), provides physical health, mental health and learning disability services across the North West region. The Trust employs around 4000 staff across our sites and also has a Temporary Bank which offers the flexibility of working shifts around other commitments.

We are committed to providing safe, compassionate care and look to appoint people who are as passionate about patient care as we are.

We are an NHS provider of specialist mental health and learning disability services based in the North West of England. We deliver a whole range of high quality, age appropriate, person and family-centred services that promote recovery, health and well-being. The Trust covers a wide geographical area including the boroughs of Wigan, Warrington, Halton, Runcorn, St Helens and Knowsley and Sefton.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and compassionate doctor to join a dynamic and forward looking specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service. We are seeking to recruit a full time Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist to our Wigan Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service.

This post has arisen due to the previous post holder taking on full time senior managerial/director and external responsibilities. The post holder will join 4 existing Consultant colleagues (including colleagues working within the specialist Children’s Eating Disorder Service [CEDS] and Paediatric Liaison team), to provide high quality care.

The post holder will work as part of an innovative multidisciplinary team piloting the new iThrive model, the schools link project and new crisis management pathway. A new neurodevelopmental pathway is also being developed across the Wigan borough – which will utilize additional resources.

You will be encouraged and supported in developing a special clinical interest, in line with service needs. You will also be encouraged to take an active role in service developments and in contributing to clinical leadership within the service.

You will also be encouraged to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and in Quality Improvement activities and other elements of clinical governance.

There are also opportunities to participate in research; close links exist between the Trust and the Universities of Manchester, Liverpool and Central Lancashire.

There are opportunities to take on additional roles and responsibilities within the Trust, including leadership, operational management, strategic development, safeguarding and educational roles.

You will be expected to register with the Continuing Professional Development Program of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. You will be expected to engage in annual appraisal towards re-validation.

The post holder will be expected to participate in a 1 in 10, out of hours on call rota (where the Consultant is 3rd on call).

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.  Successful candidates will either have a valid DBS check with the Trust or will be required to pay for the cost of the DBS Disclosure which is £47.50 for an enhanced disclosure, the cost of which will be deducted from first salary.

Applications will be welcomed from candidates included in or eligible for the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCT.

The post is advertised as full time (10 PAs), but applicants who wish to work part-time or job share are also strongly encouraged to apply.
