We have a position for a Specialist Occupational Therapist in our older person inpatient mental health service based at Atherleigh Park, Leigh. The post will cover a mixed gender dementia unit (Golborne Unit) and mixed gender functional / frailty unit for older people with mental ill health (Parsonage Unit). In the same building are adult wards which are also covered by other therapists.
We provide Recovery based services and have close links to community services in Wigan and Leigh to provide smooth transitions for our clients. You will be working with a variety of Medical, Nursing, Social Work and Therapy staff. The Therapy Team consists of Psychologists, Occupational and Pysiotherapists, Activity Co-ordinators and Therapy Assistants. There are therapy facilities on the wards and in a Hub with Gym, Sports Hall and Therapy rooms in order to provide services for a wide range of clients and their carers. We are aiming to do this over 7 days week and a degree of flexibility is needed, at this time we are working Monday to Friday .
In the unit you will support the development of Therapy Assistants, Activity Co-ordinators so that they are able to develop and contribute effectively to the care pathways so we all provide a high quality service. You will provide clinical supervision for a band 5 Occupational Therapist who is on rotation and based on Parsonage Unit.
- Commit to the 6C’s as this will be core to the measures of quality we use.
- Have post-graduate experience working as an Occupational Therapist in mental health.
- Be flexible in your approach as we are committed to developing an Outstanding service
Management supervision will be provided by the Team Manager. Clinical Supervision is available through the Occupational Therapy network in the Trust. Research and input into service development is actively encouraged. We train and assess undergraduate Occupational Therapists and this will be part of your duties.
There are Trust-wide professional forums in place and joint education with colleagues from the other boroughs to address continuing professional development as well as service developments.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. Successful candidates will either have a valid DBS check with the Trust or will be required to pay for the cost of the DBS Disclosure which is £47.50 for an enhanced disclosure, the cost of which will be deducted from first salary.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
